An inspiring scout leader

I can't quite remember whether I was coming up from cubs to scouts or scouts to sea scouts (I feel like that was a thing), but it was the first evening of having moved up the age groups. I was promptly informed that we didn't play 'submarines' anymore by the other scouts, a cub activity whereby everyone starts on one side of the room with chairs sporadically across the room, the idea being the lights were turned off and everyone had to crawl/get to the otherside of the room without touching the chairs or making a noise, whilst the leaders would shine a torch in the direction of the noise and those caught would be out. Reg made a real effort to include me in the new group by insisting we played a 'scout version', allbeit a slightly dangerous version whereby all the chairs were turned upside down to make it a bit more exciting for the older group. I'll always remember Reg fondly, giving so much of his personal time to the group and keeping us out of trouble.
